After 1 month of being on a different diet, Alice is looking SO much better!
For the first month she was eating hay and sweet feed with no grass, she wasn't drinking enough water because there was only one small automatic waterer that she wasn't able to reach often enough because she was kept on maybe a sixth of an acre with a dozen bossy adult horses twice her size.
On the first of September we moved her to this 22 acre grassy pasture compete w/ large pond with two small quarter horses and a rescued OTTB(behind her in the second picture). Since then she has had grass and pond water(it's actuall very clean) along with 2 square bales of hay per week. No feed, no bossy horses, in a huge grassy field.
I can't wait to compare pictures at the end of October! She's going to the vet today to get Coggins re-done(with paperwork this time!) and then she's being taken to a 1 1/2 acre paddock (by herself, I think/hope) right by the barn. At that point I'll see about getting her started on feed in addition to hay and grass, I'll see about getting a weight booster, and I'll start conditioning her by walking and perhaps ponying her around the big pastures.
